Data Deletion

Last updated · July 4, 2026

This page explains how to delete your Mouwaten account and the personal data associated with it.

Mouwaten is operated by Mouwaten FZE.

For deletion support, contact us at:

1. The fastest way: delete your account in the app

If you have the Mouwaten mobile app installed and can sign in:

  • Open the Mouwaten app.
  • Go to Settings.
  • Tap Delete Account.
  • Confirm the deletion when prompted.

Once confirmed, your account deletion request is processed from inside the app.

2. What gets deleted

When you delete your account, we delete or disable the personal data associated with your Mouwaten account, including:

  • Your Mouwaten account record
  • Your Apple or Google sign-in link
  • Your email address
  • Your notification preferences, such as categories, selected area, reliability settings, and language
  • Your push notification tokens
  • Recent push notification delivery logs linked to your account, subject to normal retention limits

This data is deleted or anonymized from active systems within 30 days, unless we need to retain limited information for legal, security, abuse-prevention, or audit reasons.

In most cases, app-account data is removed from active systems much sooner.

3. What is not deleted

Some information is not linked to your Mouwaten account or is not created by you, so it is not deleted when you delete your account.

This includes:

  • Public incident records shown on the map
  • Public source posts, links, excerpts, summaries, translations, and classifications derived from public sources
  • Aggregated or non-identifying technical records
  • Server, security, or operational logs retained for a limited period
  • False-report or accuracy-feedback records that are not directly linked to your account

Public incident data comes from selected public sources and may be retained as part of Mouwaten's public-safety record.

False-report or accuracy-feedback records may be retained where needed for abuse prevention, audit, and incident-integrity purposes. Where possible, these records are stored in a pseudonymous or non-account-linked form.

4. What if you cannot sign in?

If you cannot access the app, cannot sign in, lost your device, uninstalled the app, or do not remember which account you used, email us at:

info@mouwaten.com

Please include one of the following:

  • The email address you used with Sign in with Apple or Sign in with Google; or
  • Enough information to help us identify your account, such as when you signed up or which notification area you selected.

We may need to verify your identity before deleting account data.

We aim to process email deletion requests within 7 business days after receiving enough information to identify and verify the account.

5. Backups

Mouwaten and its infrastructure providers may keep encrypted backups for disaster recovery, security, and service continuity.

Deleted data may remain in backups for a limited period until those backups expire through normal backup cycles.

Backups are not used to restore deleted user accounts except where necessary for disaster recovery, legal compliance, security investigation, or service integrity.

6. Legal and security retention

In rare cases, we may retain limited information after an account deletion request where necessary to:

  • Comply with a legal obligation
  • Respond to a valid legal request
  • Prevent fraud, abuse, or security threats
  • Resolve disputes
  • Enforce our Terms of Service
  • Protect the safety, integrity, or reliability of Mouwaten

Where retention is required, we keep only what is reasonably necessary and only for as long as needed.

7. Third-party accounts

Deleting your Mouwaten account does not delete your Apple ID, Google account, or any account you hold with a third-party provider.

To manage or revoke Mouwaten's access from your Apple or Google account, use your Apple ID or Google Account settings.
