2. Using Mouwaten without an account

You can use Mouwaten without signing in.

Without an account, you can:

• Browse the incident map
• Read incident details
• View linked public source posts
• Switch between English and Arabic

Signing in is optional and is only needed for personalized mobile push notifications.

3. Information we collect

Anonymous website and app use

When you use Mouwaten without signing in, we may collect limited technical information needed to operate, secure, and improve the service.

This may include:

• Request timestamps
• Pages or app screens visited
• Browser type, device type, operating system, and app version
• IP address in standard server or security logs
• Error logs and performance data

We use this information to keep Mouwaten working, fix bugs, prevent abuse, improve performance, and maintain service security.

We do not use this information to identify you for advertising purposes.

False-report and accuracy feedback

If you use a feature such as "Report as false" or similar incident-feedback tools, we may store a pseudonymous technical record to prevent repeated or abusive submissions.

This record may include a one-way hash derived from technical signals such as your IP address, browser or device information, the incident ID, and the time of submission.

We use this only for deduplication, abuse prevention, and incident-accuracy review. These records are not used for advertising or user profiling.

Optional sign-in

Signing in is optional. It is used for personalized push notifications.

You may sign in using:

• Sign in with Apple
• Sign in with Google

When you sign in, we may receive:

• Your email address
• A stable user ID issued by Apple or Google
• Authentication information needed to keep your account active and secure

We do not receive your Apple or Google password. We do not request your contacts, calendar, photos, phone number, or private messages.

4. Push notifications

If you enable push notifications in the mobile app, we may store:

• Your notification preferences, such as incident categories, reliability settings, and language
• The area or location preference you manually select in the app
• Push notification tokens issued by Apple, Google/Firebase, or Expo
• Short-term delivery logs showing whether notifications were sent or failed

Push tokens are used only to deliver notifications to your device.

Mouwaten does not collect your device location for notifications unless a future feature clearly asks for your permission first. If location-based features are added in the future, we will request the required device permission and update this policy where needed.

Notification delivery logs are kept for troubleshooting, reliability, and abuse prevention. Unless longer retention is needed for security or legal reasons, delivery logs are kept for up to 14 days.

You can disable push notifications at any time through your device settings or Mouwaten's in-app settings.

5. Public incident sources and AI processing

Mouwaten displays incident information derived from selected public sources, including public news, journalism, local reporting, and public-safety-related accounts.

Incident records may include:

• Public post text
• Public post URL
• Public source account name or handle
• Publication time
• Incident category
• Reported location
• AI-generated classification, translation, or summary
• Verification or reliability indicators
• Related public source links

Mouwaten does not access private social-media accounts, private messages, or non-public posts.

We use automated systems, including AI models, to help identify, classify, summarize, translate, group, and locate public incident reports. AI outputs may be inaccurate, incomplete, delayed, duplicated, or misclassified.

Mouwaten is an informational public-safety tool. It is not an official emergency service, government authority, or law-enforcement system.

6. How we use information

We use information to:

• Operate the website and mobile app
• Display public-safety incidents
• Send optional push notifications
• Maintain notification preferences
• Authenticate signed-in users
• Prevent spam, duplicate reports, and abuse
• Improve reliability, speed, and security
• Debug technical issues
• Review incident accuracy
• Comply with legal obligations
• Enforce our terms and safety standards

Where required by law, we rely on appropriate legal bases such as providing the service you request, legitimate interests in operating and securing Mouwaten, consent for optional permissions or notifications, and compliance with legal obligations.

7. Third-party services

We use trusted third-party service providers to operate Mouwaten. These providers process only the information needed to perform their role.

These may include:

• Supabase for database, authentication, backend services, and real-time updates
• Vercel for website hosting, serverless functions, and background jobs
• Apple for Sign in with Apple and iOS push notifications
• Google for Sign in with Google and Android services
• Firebase Cloud Messaging for Android push notifications
• Expo for push notification routing
• Anthropic or other AI providers for AI classification, summarization, and extraction of public incident-source text
• X / Twitter as a source of selected public posts

These providers may process data in different countries depending on their infrastructure and service configuration.

We do not share personal information with third parties for their own marketing, advertising, or resale purposes.

8. Data retention

We keep information only for as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes described in this policy, unless a longer period is required for legal, security, audit, or public-safety reasons.

In general:

• Account data is kept while your account exists.
• Notification preferences are kept while your account exists or until you change or delete them.
• Push tokens are kept while notifications are enabled or while your account remains active.
• Notification delivery logs are normally kept for up to 14 days.
• Technical logs are kept for a limited operational period depending on security, debugging, and provider requirements.
• False-report and accuracy-feedback records may be kept as long as needed for abuse prevention, audit, and incident-integrity purposes.
• Public incident records may be kept for longer periods as public-safety records.

If you delete your account, associated account data is deleted or anonymized within 30 days, unless we need to keep limited information for legal, security, abuse-prevention, or audit reasons.

Backups and provider logs may take additional time to expire through normal backup cycles.

9. Account deletion

If you have a mobile app account, you can delete it in the app by going to:

Settings → Delete Account

Deleting your account removes or disables:

• Your account record
• Your notification preferences
• Your saved notification areas
• Your push notification tokens
• Recent notification delivery logs, subject to the retention rules above

Account deletion does not automatically remove public incident records, public source posts, or aggregated/non-identifying records that are not linked to your account.

10. Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:

• Access the personal data we hold about you
• Correct inaccurate or incomplete data
• Delete your personal data
• Object to certain processing
• Restrict certain processing
• Withdraw consent where processing is based on consent
• Request a copy of your data
• Complain to a data-protection authority where applicable

We may need to verify your identity before responding to certain requests.

11. Public-source correction or removal requests

If you believe an incident record is inaccurate, unsafe, outdated, or should not be displayed, contact us at:

Please include enough information for us to identify the relevant incident, such as the date, location, category, or link.

We may correct, update, hide, or remove incident records where appropriate. We may also retain certain records where needed for public-safety, audit, legal, or platform-compliance reasons.

12. Minors

Mouwaten is intended for a general audience and follows the minimum-age requirements of the app stores where it is distributed and any applicable local laws.

We do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone below the minimum age permitted for our service in their jurisdiction. If you believe a minor has provided personal data to Mouwaten without appropriate consent, contact us at info@mouwaten.com and we will take appropriate steps to delete it.

13. Security

We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect the information we process.

These measures may include HTTPS, restricted backend access, provider-level security controls, authentication through Apple or Google, secure handling of push tokens, and monitoring for abuse or unauthorized access.

No online service can guarantee absolute security. If we become aware of a security incident affecting personal data, we will take appropriate steps consistent with applicable law.

14. Cookies and tracking

Mouwaten does not use an analytics SDK and does not use cookies or similar technologies for cross-site advertising or behavioral advertising.

If cookies, local storage, or similar technologies are used, they are used only for service functionality, security, language preferences, session handling, or app performance.

If we introduce analytics SDKs, advertising, marketing cookies, or third-party tracking in the future, we will update this policy and provide any required choices or consent mechanisms.

15. Emergency disclaimer

Mouwaten is an informational tool. It is not an official emergency alert system.

Incident information may be delayed, incomplete, inaccurate, duplicated, mistranslated, or misclassified. Do not rely on Mouwaten as your only source of safety information.

In an emergency, contact the relevant official emergency services, local authorities, or trusted safety sources.

16. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time.

When we make changes, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. For significant changes, we may provide additional notice through the app, website, or email where appropriate.
